A 16-year-old in Arizona will spend multiple years behind bars for brutally beating his teenage girlfriend earlier this year after she refused to come out of her home and speak with him.

Maricopa County Superior Judge Tracy R. Nadzieja on Wednesday ordered Troy Aguilar-Olmos to serve 3 1/2 years in a state correctional facility for the vicious attack, authorities announced. The sentence was handed down after Aguilar-Olmos agreed to plead guilty to two counts of aggravated assault with domestic violence. The judge credited Aguilar-Olmos, who pleaded as an adult, with 87 days of time already served, records show.

In a news release, prosecutors with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said that in March, a then-15-year-old Aguilar-Olmos threatened to "shoot and kill" the victim if she did not come out of her home and speak with him. When she finally exited the home, authorities said he "strangled her, pointed a gun at her back, and punched her repeatedly."

"What happened to this young woman is heartbreaking. No relationship should ever be marked by fear or violence, no matter the age of the offender," Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a statement announcing the sentencing. "Today's outcome cannot undo the trauma she endured, but it is a step toward justice."

During a short news briefing on the case, Mitchell said it was lucky that the victim's sister's boyfriend was at the home, as he was able to intervene and get the gun away from Aguilar-Olmos.

Authorities said that shortly after the attack, Aguilar-Olmos was located at his parents' home and taken into custody.

However, Aguilar-Olmos did not stop terrorizing the victim after his arrest. According to a report from Phoenix CBS affiliate KTVK, Aguilar-Olmos made a series of phone calls in which he continued to threaten her life and the life of her family, apparently out of jealousy.

"I don't want you to be playing with a guy because if you are talking to a guy and you think that because I'm in jail, I can't do anything my queen, you are wrong," he reportedly said in Spanish. "You know I'm going to get out of here and when I get out of here, if I find out about something, watch out."

He also vowed to burn down a restaurant, again out of jealousy.

"They want to get me f—ing mad if I find out some s— going on in there," Aguilar-Olmos said on the call. "I'm going to burn the whole restaurant down, and man, they're f—ing tweaking on me.
