A Florida paraprofessional allegedly used a nonverbal student like a mop after the boy urinated on himself, forcing him to wear a soiled T-shirt.
Donald Heine, 51, is facing charges of child abuse and assault in connection with a July 7 incident that occurred at Alden Road Exceptional Student Center in Jacksonville.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, the student with autism urinated on himself while seated in a chair, wetting his clothes and forming a puddle on the floor below. Heine allegedly "pulled" the boy to the floor and used him "like a mop" to clean up the urine before a custodian could respond.
The defendant also used the boy's shirt to clean up the urine and made him put it back on, the affidavit said. The student made gestures indicating he was upset about the incident, cops noted.
It was not unusual for the boy to urinate on himself because he cannot control his bladder, the affidavit said. Because the incident happened later in the day, the boy had to go home in the soiled clothing.
The next day, the boy allegedly spit on other students. Heine allegedly sprayed him with antiseptic spray and continued to do so even after staff asked him to stop.
A teacher alleged Heine has had other "rough" interactions with the boy throughout the year that the teacher deemed "unnecessary."
The boy's parents say they want to press charges against Heine. Duval County Public Schools also is conducting an investigation. Heine is not allowed back on campus until that is complete, according to local NBC affiliate WTLV.
Cops obtained an arrest warrant on July 15. He was taken to the Duval County Jail on a $6,500 bond, which he has since posted. His next court date is set for Aug. 6.
