Hey, sexy ladies reading Law Newz.com. Want a stud who’ll ditch you mid-dinner, and leave you with the restaurant bill? If this ABC 13 report bares out, California man Paul Gonzales is the fella for you.
The outlet interviewed one of his apparent dates. She claimed she found him on the Bumble dating app via his now-deleted profile, where he went by the first name Dave, not Paul. Her story: they go to dinner, and he ordered right away. The food arrived, and as ABC 13 phrased it, “he scarfed down most of his meal,” then pretended he had to go do something.
“He left maybe half a baked potato and then received a phone call and said ‘I need to take this call,’ ” the woman said.
He never came back.
“The waiter came back and said ‘He’s not out there,’” she said. “’Is this a first date?’ And I said: ‘Yes, this is a first blind date,’ and he said, ‘He’s gone.’ ”
The woman says the restaurant agreed to take the hit on Gonzales’ meal, but made her pay for his glass of wine.
Law Newz.com could not independently verify her story, but ABC 13 has written about Gonzales before, reporting that he allegedly dined-and-dashed on at least two other dates. For example, a August 2016 article said he faced a petty theft charge after abandoning a woman he met on the site “Plenty of Fish.”
The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office told them they are two bench warrants out for his arrest because he allegedly no-showed court for driving without a valid license, and petty theft. It’s unclear if that latter warrant was connected to the “Plenty of Fish” date. Police say that in 2016, he got service from a hair salon, but left without paying.
