A thief stole a donation jar meant for the family of slain 7-year-old girl Heidy Rivas-Villanueva, says the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
No, you are not suffering déjà vu, and no, we did not repost an old article. On Sunday, we wrote about how deputies arrested a 46-year-old woman who allegedly swiped a restaurant’s donation jar meant for the victim’s family.
Another person stole a jar meant for the same girl’s grieving relatives.
The sheriff’s office announced that this theft happened at LaRaza Mexican Store on Sunday, but no one figured it out until the day after. Surveillance footage showed a suspect making off with a jar containing $500.
As shown on video, a man appears ready to leave to store, but he notices the donation container, and bends over to take a close look at it. He picks it up and shakes it in an apparent attempt to see how much is inside, and he walks right out of the store.
Deputies describe him as black, and wearing a blue “Maple Biscuit” t-shirt.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office asks that anyone with information contact them at 904-630-0500, or email at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous and get a possible reward of up to $3,000 can reach Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
Rivas-Villanueva was shot and killed August 11 while sitting in a parked vehicle, when nearby robbers got into a gunfight with the friend of a robbery victim, deputies said. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday night the fifth arrest in connection to her death.
