A woman in Indiana is accused of pulling her vehicle in front of a school bus and storming it with a gun while dozens of children were inside.
Jamiya Sutton, 19, has been charged with criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement where a vehicle is used, pointing a firearm at another, and unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, according to Marion County court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
On Sept. 16, Sutton was driving a Kia K4 on the east side of Indianapolis, Indiana. At the same time, a school bus carrying 37 kids was on the road.
Sutton would later tell police that when she reached the area of East 36th Street and North Dequincy Street, the school bus pulled out in front of her, and she hit a construction sign, per reporting from local Fox affiliate WXIN.
In anger, she followed the bus, and when it did not stop, she pulled her car around and parked so the bus could not pass, authorities said.
The bus driver said she didn't notice Sutton until Sutton pulled in front of the bus and made it stop. Sutton then allegedly got out of her car with a black handgun, waving it around and yelling for the driver to exit the vehicle.
The bus driver refused, and Sutton apparently "forced the door open and came onto the bus with the handgun." The defendant continued yelling and waving the gun around before leaving and getting back in her car, the bus driver added.
Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to the area because of a report of a crash. Once they got there, they saw the Kia blocking the roadway and realized the vehicles had not actually collided with each other and that the incident was unrelated to a crash.
When officers asked Sutton whether she had threatened the school bus driver, she reportedly responded that she was armed but "did not do anything with it."
The defendant was apparently blasting music at the time, and when an officer went to turn it down, they found a black handgun underneath the driver's seat in the Kia. It was a Glock 17 with a magazine holding 21 live rounds, per the local outlet.
The gun was seized, and Sutton was arrested. She is scheduled to have her initial hearing in court on Thursday.
