A Georgia father came home to find his 4-year-old daughter submerged head down in a large trash can filled with water and fish while her mom was sleeping, according to police. The little girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Jayde Wooten's dad had just arrived home at their south Macon residence when he could not find Jayde in her room, according to an incident report obtained by local Fox and ABC affiliate WGXA.
The father allegedly found Jayde's mother asleep and woke her up. She told him Jayde was in the kitchen eating when she dozed off, the incident report states.
The dad said he began "frantically" checking rooms and searching the home for Jayde, even walking outside to ask neighbors if they had seen her, according to the incident report. He heard Jayde's mom scream and ran back inside to find her in a small bathroom, where Jayde was found head down in a large trash can filled with water and fish, the report says.
Jayde's father then apparently pulled the girl out of the trash can and carried the child outside. Police later observed large puddles of water splashed around the bathroom, with a trail of water running to the front door.
A neighbor told police she rushed over and began giving Jayde CPR. She and the mother took turns providing CPR until first responders arrived.
The neighbor reported that fluids came out of Jayde's mouth and she opened her eyes at one point. However, another resident at the scene reported feeling no pulse, according to police.
A GoFundMe launched by her family describes Jayde's death as a "horrible accident" that "no parent should ever have to face."
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing. A cause of death for Jayde has not been released yet.
