A woman was allegedly shot by her ex-girlfriend at a home on the 1700 block of Kildare Avenue in Indianapolis, Ind. (WXIN).
An Indiana woman allegedly shot her ex-girlfriend in the face in front of her teenage daughter and then sent her a Facebook message saying "I'm sorry I had to do this to you b—."
Shantia Lee Goodlow, 38, stands accused of attempted murder, aggravated battery, domestic battery and unlawful carry of a handgun. Cops say the victim may be blinded for the rest of her life.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded Aug. 7 to a home on the 1700 block of Kildare Avenue for a shooting call. Cops found the victim suffering a gunshot wound to the left side of her face. The bullet traveled through her head and lodged in her wrist.
While the victim had to be sedated and was unable to make a statement, cops spoke with her mother. She said her daughter and Goodlow were going through a breakup and her daughter came to stay at her house because the couple had an "incident" earlier in the day, the affidavit stated.
Goodlow came to the victim's mother's home in the early evening and everything seemed to be "cordial," cops wrote. The woman said she was going to bed when she heard a "loud bang." She said that she found her daughter on the couch in the living room with a gunshot wound — and that Goodlow had run away.
Shortly after the incident, Goodlow allegedly wrote a Facebook post to the victim that said "I really loved you [a]nd sorry I had to do this to you b— but I told you don't play with me."
Cops later arrested Goodlow. After receiving her Miranda rights, she allegedly said she did not go over to the home with plans to hurt the victim, but the victim was being "disrespectful and belligerent," cops wrote. Goodlow was "hurt" by the breakup and became enraged when the victim continued to talk harshly toward her.
"Ms. Goodlow said that she just lost it, lost control, and let her emotions take over her," cops wrote. "She feels like she just completely threw her life away now."
Officers arrested Goodlow and took her to the Marion County Jail, where she remains without bond. Her next court date is set for Oct. 20.
