An Oklahoma woman has pleaded guilty to her role in the death of another woman who was only trying to help.
Dayna Fesler, whose age was not provided, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to a charge of accessory to murder. Fesler admitted that she was partially responsible for causing the death of 25-year-old Eriyon Tecson, who police said offered Fesler a ride when she saw the defendant by herself on the side of a highway on Dec. 7, 2025. According to the Jenks Police Department, Tecson found Fesler by herself on the side of the road after a fight with her boyfriend, Uriel Cazares.
Tecson drove Fesler to a home in Jenks, Oklahoma, where Fesler's relatives lived. Cazares was there, and when Tecson got out of her car and approached Cazares' vehicle, he allegedly ran her over.
According to a press release from the Oklahoma Attorney General, police responded to the scene after the crash and Cazares told officers that he hit Tecson by accident. Police said his speech was "slurred" and he "smelled of alcohol," and he was arrested for manslaughter at the scene.
Cazares posted $50,000 bond and was released.
After Cazares was out of custody, police obtained surveillance video from a school across the street from the alleged crime scene. In that video, which the Jenks Police Department showed at a press conference after Tecson's death, Fesler was seen getting out of the passenger side of Tecson's car, then saying something to Tecson before walking back toward Cazares' car.
Tecson can be seen walking toward Cazares' vehicle from a "considerable distance away" and while his vehicle had its headlights on. Cazares then allegedly "drove into her," then "accelerated a second time," crushing Tecson under his vehicle.
Jenks Police Chief Jason Jackson said Fesler and Cazares then allegedly spent 15 minutes "trying to figure out how to get out of there" instead of calling 911.
Tecson, a rising-star performer with the World Stage Theatre Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her father, Eric Tecson, told local NBC affiliate KJRH after the sentencing, "At this point, we want to remember Eriyon and keep moving forward to try and create a legacy for her that people will continue to know that you don't have to shy away from trying to do the right thing for people."
Cazares is charged with first-degree murder and is still at large.
