A 28-year-old Florida woman allegedly shot a man in the groin after she saw him punch her mother during a family birthday party.
Jaquasha Dean is charged with attempted murder.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, cops responded to a shooting call around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of NW 16th Street in Florida City, near Miami. Officers found the 47-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin area. He was airlifted to the hospital.
Cops spoke with Dean, who told them the shooting occurred during a "heated argument." The M4 firearm she allegedly used in the shooting was in her car.
After being read her Miranda rights, Dean reportedly said she was at the home for her grandmother's birthday party. She said she decided to leave and was placing her speaker in her trunk when she saw the victim punch her mother. The victim then reportedly walked toward her.
"According to the defendant, she retrieved her M4 firearm from her vehicle's trunk and racked the charging mechanism twice, causing two live rounds to fall onto the asphalt," police wrote.
The victim kept walking toward her, she said, and she asked him to "step back," the affidavit stated.
Dean said the victim "refused," so she fired one round at the victim's groin area.
Dean's mother told cops the victim punched her after she admonished him for hitting his own mother.
Police arrested Dean and took her to the Miami-Dade County Jail, where she remained without bond. She is slated to appear before a judge on Thursday.
