Workers Fired After Photo Circulates of Them Dressed Like Nazis For ‘Re-enactment’

A photo circulating on social media shows 5 people, 4 men and 1 woman, taking a selfie dressed as Nazis, according to a WCCO report. Two of them worked for the same Minneapolis diner. Upon learning of the photo, their employer fired them on the spot this week.

The teens say they’ve gotten death threats both from hate groups and people who oppose those hate groups.

“I’m scared to be by myself because my face is like right there in the picture and it has so many shares on Facebook,” the 18-year-old former waitress told the outlet. She said she’s not a racist, and only wore the costume as part of a war re-enactment meeting.

The 19-year-old man said that problems continued even when they tried to set the record straight.

Critics “kind of mix that up and they’re like, ‘You guys aren’t real white power? Well, we might as well come and kill you then if you’re flaunting it,’” he said.

Their names and faces were not revealed in the report. They both insist they are not Nazis or members of the Ku Klux Klan.

“I didn’t really realize how hurtful it was ever because nobody had a problem with it before and no one really said anything,” the woman said, and apologized.
