Inset: George Beemer. Background: Deputies investigate after Beemer allegedly shot his mom to death at their Fort Myers, Fla., home (Lee County Sheriff's Office).
A Florida man allegedly shot his mother to death as they looked each other in the eyes after "he had enough" and set her body on fire because she said she "wanted to be cremated."
George Beemer, 23, stands accused of second-degree murder, arson and abuse of a corpse. The Lee County Sheriff's Office first responded around 10 a.m. Saturday to the 11000 block of Ranchette Road in Fort Myers after Beemer called 911 complaining of chest pains, a probable cause arrest affidavit said.
Deputies returned to the same home about 30 minutes later for a fire. Beemer's friend, who called 911, told deputies the defendant admitted to killing his mother, per the affidavit. Cops entered the home and found the "burnt body" of a woman.
The victim is suspected to be Beemer's mom, but she has yet to be positively identified "due to the body being severely burned," the affidavit said. Authorities also found a gun with a suppressor near her body.
Detectives spoke with the friend who reported the fire. He described Beemer as "not having many friends, a lover of firearms and constantly having issues with his mother and father." Beemer stated "multiple times in the past that he wants to kill his mom" but the friend took it as "just talking sā," cops wrote.
The friend said Beemer called him that morning and told him to come over. Once he got to the house, Beemer allegedly said he killed his mother because he "had to do it" before burning the body. Beemer allegedly brought his pal inside the home and showed him the body.
They left the home and "smoked some weed" before Beemer called 911 to complain of chest pains, the affidavit stated. Once the ambulance took Beemer away, the friend called to report the fire. The friend said he was scared to call cops in front of Beemer because he had several guns.
Deputies took Beemer to the police station for an interview after he was given his Miranda rights and left the hospital. Beemer allegedly admitted to shooting his mom and pouring gasoline around her body and setting it on fire because "she wanted to be cremated."
"George stated his mother has constantly put him down, and has molested him, and today was the day he had enough," deputies wrote. "George stood in front of his mother, they looked each other in the eyes and she screamed prior to him shooting her, and then setting her on fire."
The defendant said his mom was dead when he torched her remains.
"This is one of the most horrific acts of violence imaginable," Sheriff Carmine Marceno told local ABC and NBC affiliate WZVN/WBBH. "The cruelty in this case is beyond comprehension, and I am incredibly proud of the swift, coordinated response by our deputies, fire and EMS personnel, and Major Crimes detectives, whose relentless work uncovered the truth, and justice began without delay."
