Former Stanford University student athlete, Brock Turner is scheduled to be released from jail this Friday, September 2, according to various media reports.
Turner is currently being held on a at Santa Clara County jail on a six month sentence after her was convicted in June of sexual assault on unconscious woman. Turner is expected to be released after only three month (or half the sentence) due to good behavior.
The incident for which Turner was convicted for happened back in January 2015. Turner was found guilt of three felony counts for sexually assault an intoxicated and unconscious woman.
The incident gained national attention after some saw Judge Aaron Persky as being far to0 lenient. Some advocacy groups have subsequently reviewed Persky’s record in sexual assault cases and have called for him to be recalled.
The Recall Judge Aaron Persky group is planing a rally to coincide with Turner’s release on Friday.
“Organizers of the Perky Recall Campaign will be holding a rally on Friday at the Hall of Justice at 10AM PT – the day [Turner] is being release,” group spokesman Becky Warren told LawNewz.com.
In light of the controversy surrounding this case, Judge Perskey announced earlier this month that he would stop hearing criminal matters.
