A Minnesota man was charged with assault after allegedly stabbing an acquaintance after an argument over garbage.
Travis Shockley, 38, was arrested by Duluth Police Department officers on Aug. 19, days after an unnamed 39-year-old man told police that Shockley allegedly stabbed him in the chest. According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, officers responded to the emergency room at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, at 10:20 p.m. on Aug. 13 after medical staff reported that one of their patients had been stabbed.
Police said the man identified Shockley as his attacker. Minnesota-based news outlet Bring Me the News reported that the two men knew each other.
According to the complaint, the victim told police that the alleged attack took place near the hospital and he was able to walk himself there for treatment. Once he made it to the emergency room, police said he was covered in blood from a stab wound to his chest. Medical staff determined that the man had a collapsed lung and admitted him to the intensive care unit.
When asked about what prompted the alleged attack, the man told police that he and Shockley had an argument after the man threw garbage in Shockley's car outside a home in Duluth. The man told police that made Shockley angry, and the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed the other man in the chest.
Days later, police found Shockley riding an e-bike on West 1st Street in Duluth and stopped him. He initially tried to ride away, but eventually complied with orders. Shockley was arrested and searched; police said they found a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in his shorts.
Shockley was charged with assault, possession of methamphetamine, and fleeing an officer. He is currently being held on $100,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 6.
