A Georgia man is behind bars for trying to run over two women and a dog in a Walmart parking lot, Peach State law enforcement says.
Brent Cook, 49, stands accused of two counts each of aggravated assault and terrorist threats, as well as one count of criminal damage to property, according to Cobb County Sheriff's Office records.
The underlying incident occurred on the night of Sept. 4, just before Labor Day weekend, in the parking lot of the store on Cobb Parkway in Marietta, a medium-sized city some 15 miles northwest of Atlanta.
The victims in the case are two women and a Belgian Malinois. The dog was harmed after being hit by the man's Lexus, police said.
Authorities say the defendant can be seen on surveillance footage trying to drive out of the parking lot and hitting one woman before slowing down, turning the car around, and trying to hit the woman again, according to an arrest report obtained by Atlanta-based ABC affiliate WSB.
During this first alleged attack, Cook accelerated out of his own parking spot and slowed down when he was within 10 feet of the first woman before veering toward her, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the Marietta Daily Journal.
After that, the man behind the wheel of the Lexus allegedly tried to hit another woman walking with her service dog, according to police.
The victim was able to jump laterally out of the way of the car, but the dog, which is valued at $25,000, was harmed and required $500 in treatment, the woman told investigators, according to the arrest report. Despite being hurt, the dog also ran away from the attacking car, police said.
Police say the man started out on the east side of the parking lot, then headed south, then went north through the west side of the parking lot — effectively driving all over the place as he allegedly yelled out that he wanted to kill both women "and your f—ing dog."
Both local media outlets report that Cook's aggravated assault charges also contain attempted murder qualifications. Those designations were not immediately reflected in the sheriff's office records. The case was not immediately filed on the Cobb County court docket.
The defendant remains in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
