An Alabama woman is in trouble after police said she left four children in a hot car while she went to Walmart.
D'Anna Harris, 26, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police said she left them in a dangerously hot car while on a Walmart run on Thursday. According to reporting by local CBS affiliate WAKA, police were on a routine patrol at the Walmart store in Selma, Alabama, when they spotted a car full of children in the store's parking lot.
WAKA reported that the outside temperature in Selma reached 99 degrees Fahrenheit that day.
When police officers spoke to the children after getting them to safety, they told them Harris was inside the Walmart store. The children had allegedly been left unattended. It was not made clear how long Harris was inside the store or how long the children were in the car.
Police did not provide the condition of the four children. It was not made clear what her relationship to the children was.
Harris was arrested and booked into jail after being charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She posted $4,000 bond and was released. Her next court date was not available.
Law&Crime previously reported a similar story about a 7-year-old girl in Colorado who broke the window of a vehicle that reached an interior temperature of 150 degrees Fahrenheit. She was allegedly left in the vehicle by her grandfather, who was also shopping at a Walmart.
