A man in Pennsylvania is accused of going over to his neighbor's property and stabbing him in the neck, reasoning that he no longer wanted to be "bullied."
Rup Koirala, 36, faces charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, and possessing an instrument of crime, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime. He was denied bail and was being held at the Allegheny County Jail.
On Aug. 2 at about 8:30 p.m., a man was at his home on the 1400 block of Maple Drive in Whitehall, Pennsylvania. The area is located just south of Pittsburgh.
The resident was sitting in his backyard with two other men when Koirala "showed up … uninvited," per a criminal complaint obtained by local ABC affiliate WTAE. The defendant apparently knew he was not welcome — yet he allegedly approached his neighbor with a meat cleaver and swung, striking the victim in the back of the neck.
Koirala reportedly then dropped the weapon and left, and someone called for help.
Police responded to the scene and found the victim holding a napkin to the back of his neck. He had a 4-inch gash in that area, and the meat cleaver — which had a 7-inch blade — was on the ground nearby, TribLive reported.
Emergency personnel brought the victim to a local hospital; his condition was not immediately known.
Officers found Koirala about a block away and arrested him. While he was in police custody, he allegedly said he was "tired of being bullied."
The defendant has appeared in court twice. He is scheduled to return for his preliminary hearing on Aug. 18.
