Two California teenagers are in custody after police say they pointed assault rifles at a motorcyclist after chasing him.
Gavyn Ghassedi, 18, and an unnamed 17-year-old girl were both arrested and charged with several felonies in connection with a road rage incident on Sept. 5. According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, a witness told police that they saw a black Mercedes-Benz sedan "trying to intentionally" run into a motorcyclist on a freeway off-ramp in Camarillo, California. Multiple witnesses told police they saw both the driver and the passenger of the Mercedes allegedly point firearms at the motorcyclist.
The driver of the Mercedes then allegedly ran over the motorcycle before speeding away from the scene. But the suspects did not get far.
According to police, license plate readers helped law enforcement track the car down to a Jack in the Box restaurant in Camarillo. In the drive-thru, police found Ghassedi and the teenage girl in the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The teenagers were taken into custody without incident.
When police searched the Mercedes, they allegedly found two assault rifles and a pistol, all of them unregistered "ghost guns" with no serial numbers.
Ghassedi and the girl were both charged with possession of an automatic weapon, possession of an assault weapon, unlawful transfer of a firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in public, possession of a firearm with no serial number, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, and conspiracy to commit a crime. According to online jail records, Ghassedi was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Ghassedi is in custody at the Ventura County Main Jail, where he is being held on $200,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 24. The teenage girl is being held at the Juvenile Justice Center.
The motorcyclist was not injured.
