Inset: Jorge Felix Larrea Diaz (Miami Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Center). Background: The Barlington Hotel in Miami, Fla., where Jorge Felix Larrea Diaz allegedly threatened a mother and her 9-year-old son with a knife (Google Maps).
A mother and her 9-year-old son were allegedly threatened outside a Florida hotel last week by a man wielding a "long brown knife" who told the woman, "I am going to cut your throat and your son's throat," according to police.
"Somebody is trying to kill us!" the boy shouted while running into the lobby of the Barlington Hotel in Miami, where his mom's husband was located, after being threatened by Jorge Felix Larrea Diaz, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime on Monday.
Larrea Diaz, 38, was allegedly looking for the husband when he approached the mom and her son at around 4:20 p.m. on Friday while wearing a backpack and began saying menacing things to them in Spanish. Police translated his Spanish statements in the affidavit.
"Where is your husband?" Larrea Diaz asked after pulling out his knife, according to the arrest affidavit. "[The husband] exited the lobby and saw the defendant holding the knife in his right hand," the affidavit says. "The defendant then shouted he was going to kill [the husband]."

Police say the spouse "picked up a small bicycle in self-defense" after Larrea Diaz entered the lobby looking for him, which prompted Larrea Diaz to flee the premises. He is described by cops as a guest at the hotel, where the family was also staying.
Surveillance video shows Larrea Diaz holding an item in his hand and threatening the mom and son, according to the affidavit. A knife was never recovered, but cops did arrest Larrea Diaz and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken into custody after the victims pointed him out to police.
"[Larrea Diaz] had changed clothing," the affidavit says.
It's unclear why Larrea Diaz was looking for the husband on Friday. The Barlington Hotel did not respond to Law&Crime's request for comment on Monday.
