Three parents in Georgia are facing child cruelty charges after allegedly packing their 15 children, ranging in age from 1 to 17, into a "deplorable" two-bedroom apartment with only nine beds, a lack of food and no toilet paper.
Ashley Jackson, 40, Derrick Jackson, 41, and Briana Reynolds, 36, were arrested Thursday after police allegedly discovered their kids living in the "deplorable conditions" at the Laurel Hills Preserve apartment complex off Bells Ferry Road in Marietta, according to local NBC affiliate WXIA.
All three adults face charges of first- and second-degree cruelty to children, as well as marijuana possession. The Marietta apartment was allegedly home to 18 people in all — the three adults and 15 children. The adults all claimed to be their biological parents.
Arrest warrants obtained by WXIA state that the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services requested assistance while visiting the residence. DFCS was there to perform a welfare check after being notified about two youths living at the location, the warrants say.
Police allege that the residence lacked basic necessities, including food. Officers found a mold-covered blanket hanging in one of the bedrooms, according to police. There were allegedly no recent signs of toilet paper in the home.
Officers found the children alone after executing a search warrant. Ashley Jackson, Derrick Jackson, and Reynolds arrived three hours later and were taken into custody, according to police.
Derrick Jackson faces an additional charge stemming from his time at the county correctional facility after marijuana was allegedly found inside his body upon his arrival, WXIA reports.
All three adults are being held without bond.
