Man who choked, slapped girlfriend while on vacation at beachside resort said he 'wanted her dead': Police

A 38-year-old man from Kentucky is accused of severely abusing his girlfriend, allegedly choking, slapping and threatening to kill the victim in a Florida hotel room before she was able to escape wearing only a T-shirt.

Christopher Eversole was taken into custody and charged with one count each of sexual battery, felony battery, battery and domestic violence assault in connection with the alleged incident, court records show.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the couple had lived together in Kentucky and were vacationing in Florida when the incident took place at the Beachcomber Hotel at 1200 S. Ocean Blvd. in Pompano Beach on Saturday.

The victim said Eversole drank during the trip despite being a recovering alcoholic and was drunk when he allegedly assaulted her.

The day began with Eversole "waking up in a bad mood," which led to repeated arguments, particularly when Eversole "began degrading her in public" and "talking about her genitals out loud and calling her a w— and stupid," the affidavit said.

She eventually ordered a cab back to the hotel, and Eversole followed her, according to the document.

Once inside their room, Eversole allegedly smacked her across the face with an open hand, causing instant swelling and bruising. The victim told investigators she had begun recording him because he was becoming aggressive, but Eversole allegedly "snatched" her phone and "smashed" it against a wall, leaving her without any means of communication.

He then choked her repeatedly, police said.

"The defendant then stated to the victim that she would tell people back home that he hit her and he did not know what he was going to do with her," the affidavit states. "The defendant stated he would kill her and wanted her dead. The defendant then proceeded to grab the victim by the throat and choked her impeding her breathing. The defendant would let go then calm down, then get angry again and repeated the process of choking her."

Eversole allegedly refused to let the victim leave the room as she pleaded with him to stop abusing her. He then "instructed her to get naked and have sex with him," police wrote. When she refused, he told her to "shut the f— up and just do it."

She told investigators she repeatedly asked him to stop, but he continued. She said she believed it was "safer to comply" because she feared he would kill her.

The victim said she eventually told Eversole she felt sick, and he allowed her to go to the bathroom. She stayed there while trying to figure out how to escape before finally making a run for the door.

The victim fled to the elevator and made it to the hotel lobby wearing only a blue T-shirt, without shoes or anything covering her lower body, according to the affidavit. A hotel employee gave her a blanket and called 911.

Hotel surveillance footage corroborated her account, investigators said. The cameras apparently captured the woman fleeing the room, entering the elevator and reaching the lobby.

A detective later met with the victim, noting bruising and red marks on the right side of her face. She complained of vision loss in her right eye and severe jaw pain.

The victim told investigators she had recently learned Eversole was subject to a domestic violence protection order from a previous relationship and had other pending criminal charges in Kentucky.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Eversole allegedly admitted that he had awakened in a bad mood and that the couple had argued throughout the day. He also admitted to smacking the victim "across the face" before requesting an attorney.

Eversole is being held in the Broward County Jail on $24,500 bond, records show. It was not immediately clear when he was scheduled to appear in court.
