A Florida woman allegedly hurled a glass jar of vegan mayonnaise at a driver — hitting her in the face and causing a laceration — during a road rage incident.
Christine Sweet, 57, stands accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Sweet's alleged deadly weapon of choice was a glass jar of veganaise, an egg-free version of mayo.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, the victim told deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office she was driving around 4 p.m. on Aug. 20 on Corkscrew Road near I-75 in Estero when a van cut her off.
She laid on the horn. The passenger in the van, later identified as Sweet, started yelling profanities at her and flipped her off, cops said.
When the light turned green, the van driver slowly moved into the next lane instead of going through the intersection. The victim moved next to the van, and she and Sweet started yelling at each other with their windows down.
Suddenly, the victim felt pain in her face "after observing a flash of an arm" coming through the suspect vehicle. She looked down and saw a glass of the veganaise in the car.
"I hit her in the face," the victim heard Sweet allegedly say. "Go, go, go!"
The victim suffered a cut under her eye and drove to the emergency room before calling cops.
She spotted the suspect vehicle again last week in Fort Myers and called cops. Deputies took Sweet into custody.
The responding deputy hadn't heard of veganaise before.
"What is that?" he asked in body-camera footage posted by the sheriff's office.
"It was veganaise," Sweet explained. "It's a vegan version of mayonnaise."
After that was sorted out and Sweet allegedly admitted to chucking the mayo, the deputy informed Sweet that she couldn't throw things at people and that she was under arrest.
She was taken to the Lee County Jail, where she posted a $20,000 bond. Her next court date is not listed.
