An Illinois Wendy's employee tried to kill her co-worker, barging into an office as the victim spoke with their manager and stabbing the victim in the face.
Tichina Marshall, 29, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder and was sentenced to 12 years in prison, according to the Vermilion County State's Attorney.
The incident unfolded on May 26, 2025, at a Wendy's on North Vermilion Street in Danville. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, who was "bleeding uncontrollably, and nearly unconscious" with stab wounds to the head and face, prosecutors said.
Cops learned that the victim was speaking with a manager in a small office. Suddenly, the defendant burst through the door, armed with a knife. Marshall said, "I am going to kill you," before slashing the victim at least twice in the face and on top of the head with the knife.
This wasn't the first time the victim and Marshall had issues. Marshall allegedly threatened to kill the co-worker about a month prior to the stabbing.
Marshall fractured the victim's skull and caused a deep stab wound to the head. Cops arrested Marshall after the incident.
State's Attorney Jacqueline Lacy credited the victim for working with prosecutors to ensure a conviction.
"While no sentence can undo the lasting effects caused by this defendant, this prison sentence reflects the violent nature of this attack and the devastating injuries suffered by the victim," she said.
Marshall will have to serve at least 85% of the sentence until she is eligible for parole. After her release from prison, she will be on probation for three years.
Not long after the incident, this Wendy's was one of 300 locations that closed because it was underperforming.
