A 38-year-old Florida police officer is accused of attacking her boyfriend after he said he wanted to end their two-year relationship, allegedly blocking him from leaving her home, then scratching and biting him.
Marcia Sangronis, of the North Bay Village Police Department, was arrested Tuesday on one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, court records show.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the investigation began when the alleged victim ran from Sangronis' home just before 10 a.m. on Oct. 6 and flagged down two patrol officers with the Hialeah Police Department. He told them Sangronis "physically abuses him" and provided details about the latest alleged attack.
The victim said he and Sangronis spent the night at her home, where she initiated a discussion about the man's "lack of motivation to pursue a career in law enforcement." He said that whenever the topic comes up, Sangronis always "becomes angry and violent," so he had "learned to minimize conversations about his career plans and agree with Sangronis to avoid making her angrier."
The victim also said he planned on "ending the relationship" with Sangronis when they woke up the next day.
From his account of the following morning:
The victim said when he told her he wanted to end things, the defendant became upset and stood in front of the doorway to prevent him from exiting the residence. The victim said he tried reaching for the doorknob, when the defendant said to him, "You are not allowed to leave." The victim attempted again to reach for the doorknob to leave when the defendant started to attack him.
In a recorded statement at the precinct, the victim added that when he told Sangronis he was "done with the relationship," she "bearhugged him" and dragged him away from the door before biting him.
Hialeah police special victims detectives responded, and a Criminal Investigations Division technician photographed the man's injuries. They included three separate bite marks on his left arm, one of which broke the skin, along with several scratches on his body, arms and face.
Sangronis also provided a statement to police, but that portion of the arrest affidavit is redacted.
The North Bay Village Police Department said Hialeah police notified the agency about the incident and that Sangronis was "relieved of duty with pay per our agency's protocols," local station WPLG reported.
"The North Bay Village Police Department holds all its personnel to the highest standards of conduct and fully accountable for their actions on and off duty," the department said.
Sangronis was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and released after posting bond of $1,000. As a condition of her release, a judge prohibited her from having contact with the alleged victim.
It was not immediately clear when Sangronis was due back in court.
