Two men are set to be sentenced in Wisconsin after they stabbed their roommate following an argument over chores and the thermostat.

Fernando Alejo-Tiburcio, 21, and Alberto Castillo-Serrano, 22, have each pleaded no contest to first-degree recklessly endangering safety, aggravated battery intending great bodily harm, and substantial battery, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime. A charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide was dropped for both defendants.

On Dec. 20, 2025, Alejo-Tiburcio, Castillo-Serrano, and their other roommates were drinking together at their home on Water Street in Menasha, Wisconsin. The city is located about 100 miles north of Milwaukee.

At some point, the roommates began arguing about chores, their shared thermostat, and internet access, according to criminal complaints obtained by regional ABC affiliate WBAY. The two other roommates left the home to go for a walk, and when they returned, they locked themselves in a bedroom.

Alejo-Tiburcio and Castillo-Serrano were apparently waiting for them outside the door.

The defendants reportedly threatened to kill one of the other roommates and forced the bedroom door open. Authorities said they attacked him, giving him serious head injuries.

The victim managed to run to another room, where he said, "they stabbed me," per the area outlet. He was later taken to the hospital, where he had 19 cuts on his head and needed stitches and staples.
