A Florida preschool teacher was arrested after she allegedly dragged a child by the ear "from one side of a desk to another," authorities say.
Cheyenne Eigner, 28, has been charged with child abuse, according to Duval County court records reviewed by Law&Crime. She was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and booked into jail on $5,000 bond, which she has posted.
On May 22, Eigner was at 9039 Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville, Florida, which is the location of Cornerstone Christian School. She was a preschool teacher at the school at the time, an arrest report states.
The institution says on its website that it is "a non-denominational Christian School located in Jacksonville, Florida, serving over 320 students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade in a Bible-based curriculum."
It is unclear how the sheriff's office learned of the alleged incident, but according to the court document, an investigator reviewed surveillance video showing Eigner that day "dragging" a child "by the ear, moving her from one side of a desk to another, for no apparent reason."
Authorities said the child — whose age was redacted from the report — "immediately clutched her ear after the suspect released her grip." The girl "appeared to be in pain, but she sustained no lasting injury from the incident."
Eigner was detained on Oct. 1. The arrest report doesn't explain why there was a four-month delay between the alleged incident and the arrest.
The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Oct. 22.
Cornerstone Christian School said in a statement to local news outlet WJXT that it is "aware that a former employee was recently arrested in connection with a May 2026 incident involving the inappropriate handling of a student."
"As soon as administration learned of the incident, the employee was immediately removed from campus, their employment was terminated, and the matter was reported to law enforcement," the statement went on. "The school has cooperated fully with investigators throughout the process. The safety and well-being of our students is, and will always be, our highest priority."
Jacksonville is in northeast Florida.
