Man got into 2nd accident after hitting pedestrian, whose body was still on his car when he fled on foot: Police

An Illinois man allegedly struck a pedestrian — and caused a second crash while the victim's body was still on his car.

Miroslaw Ciszek, 34, was released from custody with an ankle monitor after being charged with aggravated DUI, leaving the scene of an accident causing injury or death, and three DUI misdemeanors. The Chicago Police Department said Ciszek was drunk while behind the wheel of a vehicle that fatally struck 25-year-old Sarah Milcarek at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday while she was crossing the street.

According to reporting by Chicago-based ABC affiliate WLS, police said Ciszek kept driving and crashed into an SUV. After the second crash, Ciszek allegedly fled the scene again until he crashed into a tree. He then allegedly fled on foot until he was apprehended in a building nearby.

Ciszek appeared in court for a detention hearing on Tuesday, which was covered by local news site CWBChicago.com. During that hearing, prosecutors provided more details about the alleged series of incidents, including the fact that after Ciszek allegedly struck Milcarek, she was flung into the air and landed in the rear window of Ciszek's Nissan.

Prosecutors said Ciszek kept driving with Milcarek's body on his car until he crashed into the SUV, which was stopped at a red light. When the SUV's driver got out to get Ciszek's information, Ciszek allegedly drove away and then crashed into a tree. Ciszek was allegedly caught on surveillance cameras getting out of his crumpled Nissan and fleeing on foot.

But the chase did not end there, prosecutors said. Two witnesses chased Ciszek on foot and attempted to wrestle him to the ground. In the struggle, Ciszek reportedly lost one of his Crocs and dropped his car keys while running to a nearby apartment building where he used to live.

Meanwhile, first responders arrived at the scene and transported Milcarek to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police caught Ciszek — wearing one Croc — around 1 a.m. After Ciszek was arrested, police tested his blood-alcohol level, which was reportedly 0.088, above the legal driving limit hours after he allegedly hit Milcarek.

A judge released Ciszek from custody and ordered him to wear an ankle monitor while avoiding excessive drinking. His next court date was not available.
