A 3-year-old Florida girl died after her head became stuck in a wooden kitchen play set at a babysitter's home, cops say.
Cops have not filed criminal charges and the investigation remains ongoing.
Boynton Beach police responded around 11 a.m. July 23 to the Meadows of Boynton Beach community for a report of a toddler unresponsive and not breathing.
Paramedics rushed the girl identified in a GoFundMe as Briella to the hospital, where she later died.
According to police, the toddler and her sibling were at a babysitter's home when the incident occurred. The babysitter left the home and placed the children in the care of a spouse. The spouse was upstairs while the children played downstairs, checking in on the children on occasion and giving them snacks.
Officers said the spouse came downstairs and found the girl's head stuck in the play set. The spouse "immediately began performing life-saving measures until first responders arrived," police said in a news release.
The girl was in critical condition at the hospital until her death on July 27.
Her sibling told cops the girl was reaching for toys that had fallen into the play set when she became stuck. The family watching the children had purchased the play set on Facebook Marketplace a few years ago, police say.
It has no identifying markings indicating its brand, make or model, cops said. The play set is similar to a "country living kitchen" replica that can be bought for about $100. It includes two play stove burners with floral artwork, checkered borders and farm motifs.
In the GoFundMe, loved ones described Briella as a "bright light in the lives of so many."
"She had a kind heart, a beautiful spirit, and a smile that could light up any room. She touched countless lives with her love, laughter, and compassion, and the impact she made will never be forgotten."
