A Texas woman is behind bars for allegedly threatening to kill her boyfriend with multiple knives, Lone Star State police say.
Jamie Rae'Chal Hicks, 28, stands accused of one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Longview Police Department.
The underlying incident occurred on the night of July 10 at a residence on Meadowview Drive in Longview, a medium-sized city located roughly 60 miles west of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Police arrived at around 7 p.m. that night in response to a family violence call, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Longview News-Journal.
The woman's boyfriend said he and Hicks had been arguing about a disagreement between her and one of her friends, police said. During the discussion, the defendant allegedly became upset.
At one point, Hicks threw her cellphone at her boyfriend but missed, police said. After that, she started punching him "all over his body," according to the charging document.
The boyfriend said that while he was being punched, he pushed the woman away, but she came toward him again and continued punching, police allege.
Next, the boyfriend threw his girlfriend's phone at the ground trying to break it, the victim told investigators. But the hits kept coming, police said. So, the man said he "bear hugged" the defendant and was able to get her over to the couch, according to the affidavit.
That's when the knives allegedly came out.
"When he let go, Jamie went into the kitchen and grabbed two knives, approached him while making a cutting motion with the knives, stating, 'You going to die … tonight,'" the affidavit reads.
Faced with the knives, the boyfriend grabbed a rifle but did not point it at the woman, according to the charging document.
Hicks then took her children and left the residence, police said.
The boyfriend also showed police a video on his cellphone showing Hicks approaching him with two knives and telling him that he was going to die, according to the affidavit.
The defendant, for her part, said she did not approach her boyfriend with two knives, police said. Investigators discounted this account of the incident after seeing the cellphone video.
Hicks also told responding officers that she had been hit during the altercation, police said. Law enforcement said the woman did not have any visible bodily injuries.
The defendant was arrested on July 20 and is currently being detained in the Gregg County Jail on $40,000 bond.
