A woman was arrested after authorities say she stashed a man's body in the attic of a Pennsylvania home and let the remains sit there until they rotted "through the floor."
Angela Rice, 41, has been charged with misdemeanor abuse of a corpse, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.
She was wanted by police for at least a year in connection with the death of 36-year-old Gregory Hatton-Rohn.
In June 2024, months after Hatton-Rohn was reported missing, authorities, including the coroner of Cambria County, Pennsylvania, announced that they had found his remains on June 29, 2024, inside a house on the 100 block of Adams Street in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The city is located about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.
"It's absolutely suspicious," Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said at the time, per local NBC affiliate WJAC. "We have a body that's been deceased five to six months, wrapped in a tarp, put in a crawl space off of a third-floor bedroom."
The man had reportedly decomposed "down to the skeletal remains" and "through the floor."
Investigators said they had never seen a case like this before.
"I have about 40 murder investigations under my belt and countless other death investigations," Cory Adams, detective sergeant with the Johnstown Police Department, began. "I've never even seen a body hidden the way this one was. This was brand new to us, and I can say that, even looking at the spot where the body was recovered … they hid him very well."
In the summer of 2025, authorities said a witness came forward in the case, saying Rice admitted to them that she hid Hatton-Rohn's body "in the walls" after he apparently overdosed, per the area TV station. However, she was not arrested until officers with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force found her at a home in Schenectady, New York, this month.
She is being held in the Cambria County Prison and has been unable to post $200,000 bail, court records state. Authorities have reportedly said more charges are expected as the investigation moves forward.
Rice is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 10.
