A Florida man allegedly stabbed his mother 30 times because he was "tired" of her "bothering" him, then texted a photo of her body to the family group chat and said "she is dead."
Manuel Farfan-Cabello, 28, is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his mother, 58-year-old Ylda Cabello-Ynocente.
The Broward County Sheriff's Office responded around 7:45 p.m. Friday to the 5300 block of NW 28th Street in Tamarac for a stabbing, a press release said.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, Farfan-Cabello called 911 to report that he killed his mother. He allegedly said he stabbed her about four hours earlier and later tossed the knife he used to kill her into a nearby pond.
Deputies arrived and took him into custody.
They entered the home, where they found a "substantial amount of blood throughout the living room and kitchen areas," cops wrote. Cabello-Ynocente's body was "stiff and cold to the touch," deputies said. She was pronounced dead.
Investigators also found a blood trail leading from the home to a neighbor's porch. Surveillance video from that home showed Farfan-Cabello ringing the doorbell earlier in the night, the affidavit stated.
Family members said they received a phone call from a relative in Peru who allegedly said "something horrible had occurred" at the victim's home. Farfan-Cabello's aunt told cops her nephew used his mother's phone to send a family group chat message that said "she is dead" in Spanish, according to the complaint.
"Please forgive me, but God told me to do it," another message allegedly said.
The relatives asked that he send a photo for proof, and he obliged, according to cops.
It allegedly showed the victim lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
Farfan-Cabello spoke to another family member on the phone.
"I killed my mom," he allegedly declared. "Yes. I was tired of her. She was bothering me too much, and I am here with God."
The suspect then said he planned to burn her body, detectives wrote. Family convinced him to call cops instead.
Family members told cops Farfan-Cabello was diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental health issues. In an interview with local NBC affiliate WTVJ, relatives said the suspect had struggled for years and often hallucinated.
An autopsy determined Farfan-Cabello stabbed his mother 30 times, the affidavit stated.
Farfan-Cabello is in the Broward County Jail without bond. A judge appointed him a public defender and ordered that he receive a mental health evaluation.
