North Carolina authorities arrested two people after they found the remains of a man and woman four days apart along a nature trail.
Jamar Quarmaine Propst and Tosha Lee Lewis, both 36, are charged with two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy in the deaths of 31-year-old Raheim McClain Murray and 39-year-old Carla Janon Murray, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation began on July 20 when authorities received a report about "suspicious circumstances" along the nature trail at Simpson Park in Glen Alpine, which is some 80 miles northwest of Charlotte.
Authorities recovered human remains the next day and identified the body as Raheim Murray. On Friday, investigators obtained warrants for Propst and Lewis' arrest for one count of first-degree murder and conspiracy and took them into custody without incident.
Later on Friday, cops discovered a second set of human remains that were later identified as Carla Murray. Officials obtained warrants for a second count of murder and conspiracy.
The sheriff's office called in the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to help with the case and to process the scenes.
Cops so far have been quiet about several aspects of the case, including the cause of death and how long the bodies were in the park. Investigators have also not disclosed a connection between the suspects and victims or a motive for the alleged killings. The Murrays lived at a home about 12 miles from the park, deputies said.
Propst and Lewis remain at the Burke County Jail without bond. Their next court dates are set for Aug. 18.
The case remains under investigation.
