A Texas man is behind bars after police said he fatally shot another man and fled the scene.

Ezequiel Hernandez, 31, was charged with murder after police said he shot a man who was found dead outside a business in a Garland, Texas, shopping center on Saturday. According to the Garland Police Department, officers responded to reports about a person being shot around 2 a.m. Paramedics attempted to save the man, who was found on the ground with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police did not identify the victim, but his family spoke to Dallas, Texas-based NBC affiliate KXAS and identified him as Carlos Ramos.

Investigators said Hernandez and Ramos had an argument earlier while inside one of the businesses. After the business closed, the two men continued their conversation outside. The argument escalated, and Hernandez allegedly shot Ramos while they were in the parking lot. Hernandez then allegedly fled the scene in his white Ford F-250.

Police said they tracked Hernandez's vehicle to a home in Mesquite, Texas, where he was taken into custody.

Jeremy Ramos, the brother of Carlos Ramos, told KXAS that Carlos Ramos had just moved back to Texas from New Jersey about two weeks before his death. He said his brother left behind a teenage son.
