A Missouri man has been convicted of murder after executing a woman who broke up with him "via text message" — killing her with a gunshot blast to the temple just one day after she ended things.

Darryl Greenlee, 61, was found guilty last week of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the August 2025 shooting death of his 64-year-old ex-girlfriend, Sheila Mills, in St. Louis County.

Local police found Mills dead inside her Northwoods residence with her hands bound behind her back and "a gunshot wound to her right temple" after her daughter requested a welfare check, according to a criminal complaint.

"Victim and defendant were in a relationship of a turbulent nature," the complaint said. "Victim ended the relationship via text message."

The morning after the breakup, Greenlee showed up at Mills' residence around 6:30 a.m. and began "knocking on her window and calling for her attention," according to the complaint. "[Mills] answers the door and defendant forces his way into her residence," the document stated.

Greenlee allegedly showed up at Mills' home with another man, Kevin Shelton, who is scheduled to go on trial in late September for murder, armed criminal action, robbery and other crimes related to Mills' death, according to court records.

Prosecutors say Shelton was seen leaving Mills' residence with a mask and gloves after the break-in and slaying. He is accused of stealing Mills' car and using her debit card to withdraw $140.

Greenlee allegedly left Mills' home with Shelton and was seen tossing a bag of trash into a nearby garbage bin. Police found the trash bag, which contained a tequila bottle with Greenlee's DNA on it.

"At no time are any other individuals seen entering or exiting victim's residence," the complaint concluded.

Greenlee is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 23. Shelton's trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 28.
