A 21-year-old man in Michigan is accused of fatally shooting the older brother he allegedly resented, before their sister confronted him, who could be heard screaming, "What did you do?! What did you do?!"

Breylon Roberts was taken into custody and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony in the slaying of Trey Cameron Roberts, court records show.

Prosecutors allege Breylon Roberts shot his brother multiple times inside their family home. Investigators pointed to a history of conflict between the brothers, with friends and relatives suggesting Breylon Roberts was resentful of Trey Roberts' success.

"What we learned over the past few years is that the jealousy pretty much stems from our suspect being jealous of his brother's success," Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren said during a news conference, according to Detroit-based NBC affiliate WDIV. Barren said that Trey Roberts was doing well at his job and was well-liked by family and friends, which sparked his brother's envy, according to the station.

The brothers' 17-year-old sister came home and called 911 around 3 p.m. on Oct. 19 to report finding blood and what appeared to be bullet holes inside the home in the 17000 block of Dorset Avenue, local CBS affiliate WWJ reported.

Minutes later, Breylon Roberts returned home as his sister repeatedly screamed, "What did you do?! What did you do?!" the Oakland Press reported.

Responding officers found Trey Roberts in the kitchen with multiple gunshot wounds, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Breylon Roberts was arrested there.

Police said a nearby security camera showed the killing took place hours earlier. On the footage, 17 gunshots can reportedly be heard coming from inside the home before Breylon Roberts was seen exiting.

"Approximately one minute later, the suspect, Breylon Roberts, was observed leaving the rear of the residence with a dog and walking east along the sidewalk," Barren reportedly said. "Witnesses said it was unusual for Roberts to walk the dog, and the behavior stood out, particularly after the sound of gunfire."

Investigators later tracked Breylon Roberts to a family member's home, where witnesses said he was "acting weird" before he took a shower, WDIV reported. After showering, he returned to the home, which is when his sister reportedly confronted him.

Police recovered 17 spent 9 mm shell casings from the kitchen where Trey Roberts was found. Officers also searched a black Jeep Grand Cherokee registered to Breylon Roberts and recovered a black handgun with a spent magazine beneath the driver's seat. The police chief said ballistic testing showed the weapon matched the gun used to kill Trey Roberts.

Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald called the case a devastating example of violence within a family.

"Trey was killed in his home, the place he should've felt safest, allegedly by someone he should've felt safest with," McDonald said.

Breylon Roberts pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and is scheduled to return to court Nov. 5 for a probable cause conference, according to WDIV. He remains held without bond.
