A Texas man told police that he shot his aunt's boyfriend because he gave him "bad vibes."
Joitorian Bouye, 21, was charged with murder and is currently in custody at the Travis County Jail after police said he fatally shot 35-year-old Tyrell Pordia on Aug. 29. According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting in an Austin neighborhood. They arrived to find Pordia with fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told police they saw Bouye flee the scene, but he was apprehended and arrested the same day.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by local CW affiliate KXAN, Pordia had several gunshot wounds and was "beyond lifesaving measures" by the time officers arrived. At the scene, police found several fired rifle casings that were consistent with ammunition used in AR-15 rifles.
Police spoke to neighbors who were familiar with Bouye and said the suspected gunman had been arguing with Pordia, who was the boyfriend of Bouye's aunt, about "trafficking" before they heard gunshots.
Bouye's aunt was at a neighbor's house when she was questioned by police. According to the affidavit, she seemed to be in disbelief that Bouye would commit such an act, reportedly repeating, "[W]hy would my nephew do that?" She told police she was in the kitchen when Pordia went outside to the patio. While Pordia was outside, she heard "popping sounds."
According to the affidavit, Bouye's aunt ran outside to see what happened and saw Bouye "holding a gun and yelling about 'trafficking.'" Bouye then hopped a fence and ran away. Police found him about half a mile from his aunt's home. He allegedly had a handgun and "9 mm and .223/5.56 mm ammunition" on him when he was tracked down.
After being taken into custody and read his rights, police said Bouye told them that he shot Pordia with the AR-15 because Pordia gave him "bad vibes." Bouye also said Pordia "wanted him dead" and told police he suffered from schizophrenia.
Bouye was charged with first-degree murder. His next court date was scheduled for Sept. 11.
