A woman in Maryland had just moved to a new apartment when she saw her estranged boyfriend and ran before she was gunned down and the suspect walked away, according to law enforcement.

Amir Johnson, 26, has been indicted for first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Shakeia Allen, Baltimore County court records reviewed by Law&Crime show.

The defendant is also charged with use of a firearm during the commission of a felony or a crime of violence.

Johnson and Allen were in a relationship for years but had multiple instances of reported domestic violence, according to records reviewed by local CBS affiliate WJZ.

In August 2023, both the man and the woman filed protective orders against the other, but those efforts were dropped when neither appeared in court.

In February 2024, the couple reportedly argued for days and their fight allegedly turned physical. Johnson was charged with assault.

On April 21, 2024, the Baltimore County Police Department said Allen was at an apartment at the ReNew Apartment Complex in Baltimore County.

The mother of a young child had only been living at the complex a few days, and she apparently moved "to get away from that man," a neighbor, Dawn Beddis, told the area outlet.

Surveillance video allegedly showed Johnson at the apartment complex, chasing Allen through the parking lot on the day in question.

"Get away from me!" she screamed.

"Leave her alone!" a witness can be heard yelling.

Johnson allegedly then shot her multiple times from close range.

"When I saw the video, and I saw how cold, you know, he was when he was shooting her, and walks away like, 'Hey, just another day,' it's frightening," Beddis added to WJZ.

Police said this week that a grand jury indicted Amir Johnson for the shooting, which occurred "in the parking lot of Allen's Nottingham apartment building and was recorded by an onlooker."

Johnson was reportedly arrested in Maine on unrelated domestic violence charges, which were dropped once he was booked in jail in Maryland.
