A Minnesota woman who ran a daycare out of her home has been charged after an infant in her care died.

Narcisa de Jesus Morales Deleg, 58, was charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 7-month-old baby whom she was watching at her home daycare. According to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime, police responded to Morales Deleg's home in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, on June 30, 2025, after receiving a call about a baby who was not breathing.

The mother of the little boy told police that she showed up at Morales Deleg's home to pick up her son and placed her usual call to indicate that she was there. But when she arrived, Morales Deleg did not pick up her phone.

According to the complaint, Morales Deleg finally appeared at the door, holding the unresponsive baby. The baby's mother told police that she had to tell Morales Deleg to call 911, but that Morales Deleg "questioned why she should call."

The baby was transported to the hospital, where medical staff determined that he had suffered a lack of oxygen to his brain and had to be intubated. After medical treatments were unsuccessful, the baby died on July 15, 2025.

Police said a child abuse pediatrician who treated the little boy determined he may have choked or asphyxiated due to his position in the swing.

Morales Deleg told police that she was caring for multiple children the day the boy was found unresponsive. According to the complaint, she said the baby had a bottle around 2 p.m. that day and fell asleep until 4:20 p.m. Morales Deleg then placed the baby in the swing and gave him another bottle. She told police that the boy took the bottle himself, but the baby's mother told police he was not holding his bottles yet.

According to the complaint, Morales Deleg said that after giving the little boy his bottle at 4:20 p.m., she left the room and did not have eyes on him for "five to 10 minutes." She then found the baby "slumped over in the swing." Police said Morales Deleg described the boy as "limp and pale" when she found him.

Police wrote in the complaint that Morales Deleg found the boy was not breathing at 4:40 p.m., but the 911 call was not placed until 5:03 p.m. An investigation into her phone activity indicated that for 18 minutes of the 23 minutes between her finding the boy unresponsive and calling for help, Morales Deleg was texting members of her own family and family members of the other children she was watching. Her phone activity reportedly lasted until 4:58 p.m.

The evaluating pediatrician told police that the baby could have been saved if Morales Deleg had not waited so long to call 911.

Morales Deleg was charged by summons and is not currently in custody. She is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 22.
