Police at the scene of a Las Vegas murder-suicide in which two daughters came home and found their parents both dead (KLAS/YouTube).
Two daughters in Nevada came home from school to find both of their parents dead, with cops saying the father forced his way into the mother's home and waited to ambush her before taking his own life.
"The husband came over earlier … forced his way inside the apartment and waited for the mother to arrive home," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Robert Price said at a press conference Monday.
"When the mother arrived home, it appears that the husband shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself and shot himself," Price said.
According to Price, the couple's two daughters found them on Monday afternoon after returning home to their mom's apartment in the 4900 block of South Nellis Boulevard near Tropicana Avenue. One of them called the police upon their arrival after finding their parents.
"LVMPD dispatch received a 911 call from a female caller stating that she had just got home from school and found her mother and father both shot," Price told reporters.
Police arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. and found both parents suffering from gunshot wounds. They rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, but the man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.
"Detectives determined [the husband] shot his wife and then himself," an LVMPD press release says.
A motive for the murder-suicide has not been released.
"Homicide detectives have been notified and we're currently investigating," Price said. "It appears that the husband and wife were both separated and have been for a while."
Police have not yet identified the couple. They are reportedly in their mid-30s. The daughter who called police is a teenager, according to Price.
"There's a guardian that came for the child," Price said.
