Dylan James Brown during his sentencing for killing his 2-month-old daughter (KCCI).
An Iowa man will spend nearly six decades in prison after he beat his infant daughter to death, punching her more than 40 times and choking her mother unconscious when she tried to stop him.
Dylan James Brown, 24, a.k.a. Guy Green, was sentenced to 58 years in prison for the death of 2-month-old Mia Green and assaulting her mother, the Polk County Attorney's Office said. He pleaded guilty in August to child endangerment resulting in death and domestic abuse assault. He will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
Polk County District Judge Coleman McAllister noted the size difference between Brown and the baby.
"Mr. Brown was six-foot-two, 350 pounds, and he beat his child to death," McAllister said. "These crimes are not only senseless, they shock the conscious."
Brown told authorities he woke up on Aug. 7, 2025, to find Mia not breathing at his home in Grimes, a Des Moines suburb.
"He started striking the child, thinking it was the best course of action," his attorney, Andrew Petrovich, said. "There is no evidence to suggest he had an ill will toward baby Mia. He has trouble controlling his emotions when triggered."
Petrovich said his client suffered from mental illness and an abusive childhood.
But prosecutors noted he had a history of making bad choices, including violating the no-contact order with the child's mother nine times.
"This sentencing is not about his childhood; it is about the childhood he took," said Assistant County Attorney Shannon Bogolin.
Mia suffered fractures to the skull, pubic bone, ribs, clavicle and tibia. The injuries did not come from CPR and resembled those of a car crash.
A criminal complaint obtained by local CBS affiliate KCCI said Brown hit Mia more than 40 times. He then choked Mia's mother until she lost consciousness when she tried to intervene. The mother survived.
Brown apologized to the court.
"I hope I get the help I need in prison," he said.
