The Walmart in Glenolden, Pa., where cops say two customers got into a fight that led to a worker being shot (WCAU/YouTube).
A Walmart shopper in Pennsylvania allegedly pulled out a gun in the store's self-checkout area and tried to shoot another customer upward of 10 times while arguing with them. He missed and shot a worker instead, according to police.
The chaos unfolded at a Walmart in Glenolden, which is about 18 miles south of Philadelphia, around 7:30 p.m. Friday, according to local NBC affiliate WCAU.
Police were still searching for the gunman over the weekend.
"They rushed everybody to the back of the store," a customer told WCAU after the shooting. "I could see something ricochet to the floor and then it like flashed. So, I'm assuming that was the bullet."
Another shopper told the local TV station that she heard "children screaming" and saw another person hyperventilating.
"She was panicking," the shopper recounted. "I went to her side. I was telling her to breathe. Take deep breaths so she could be able to think and concentrate."
Police officials say the gunman was arguing with another man in the self-checkout area when he pulled out a pistol and fired between five and 10 rounds at the other shopper. A female employee who was not part of the altercation was shot in the calf and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they are reviewing surveillance video inside and outside the Walmart, as well as the suspect's purchase history, to try to piece together what happened and identify the suspect, according to local Fox affiliate WTXF.
"The safety of our associates and customers is a top priority," Walmart said in a statement. "We're grateful to first responders for their swift response and are working closely with law enforcement as they continue their investigation."
