Seven years later, Athena Joy Curry is still missing, and her big sister Aisha Magee doubts she is alive.
“No, it’s almost impossible for me to believe that,” she said in a Law&Crime Network interview published Tuesday. “She’s 20-years-old–she would be 27. Where would she be for the past seven years that she wouldn’t contact her friends, her family, her son, anybody?”
According to her, domestic violence marked Curry’s life with boyfriend Yusef Mujahid. It started early in the relationship, Magee said. She didn’t know about all of it, but she said she reviewed her sister’s journal entries amid the missing person investigation. These alleged that Mujahid beat her when she was pregnant with their son, King.
In another incident, Magee said she went to pick up her sister from the hospital after Curry gave birth to her child, and Curry claimed that Mujahid tasered her there.
“Wait, wait,” said host Vincent Hill. “Just so I’m clear, you’re saying he actually used a taser, that police use, on the woman who had just given birth to his son? At the hospital?”
“Yes, he did,” said Magee.
She told Hill that she’s the one who reported her sister missing. Mujahid claimed to last see Curry early morning May 27, 2011. He texted Magee the Tuesday after, asking her to tell Curry to call him, Magee said. She pressed him. He said when he last saw her sister, telling Magee that Athena stormed out of the residence after an argument.
“And I was thinking, ‘Okay, and you didn’t go after her?'” Magee said. “I said, ‘She hasn’t been home, she didn’t come home.’ And then he said something that made me just realize something was terribly wrong. He said she left King with him, and right there I knew–my heart just stopped.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Atlanta Police Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477. Cops describe Curry as standing 5’8″ and weighing 150, with black hair, and brown eyes.
