A Minnesota man is behind bars after police said he fatally shot another man following an argument over food.
Danuell Love, 49, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of an unnamed victim who died of multiple gunshot wounds on Sept. 2. According to a probable cause statement reviewed by Law&Crime, police responded to reports of a shooting at an intersection in Minneapolis, Minnesota, around 9:30 p.m. and found the deceased victim surrounded by a group of people.
Police spoke to the crowd that had gathered, and they told officers they heard the victim arguing with another man, later identified as Love.
According to the probable cause statement, a witness told police that he heard Love and the victim arguing, and Love allegedly threatened to shoot the other man. The witness said he heard the victim tell Love, "I'll take your gun from you and shoot you." After the witness walked into a Speedway store nearby, he told police he heard five or six gunshots.
A second witness told police that he heard the same argument and walked past Love and the victim while they were still arguing. Once Love and the victim were behind him, he said, he heard the same amount of shots ring out. The second witness told police that he turned around and saw Love toss a black handgun into a bush after removing it from his waistband.
Police said they found the gun, as well as five discharged cartridge casings, a short distance from where the victim was found.
Officers were able to locate Love near the scene while they were speaking with witnesses. After he was taken into custody and read his rights, Love reportedly told police that he and the victim ran into each other on the street. The victim discussed how he had shared food with Love without "getting anything in return." Love told police that he had shared liquor with the victim, but the two men ended up having an argument.
The verbal altercation turned physical, and Love said the victim would not let him continue on his way down the sidewalk. After changing his story about how he got the gun, Love allegedly admitted to shooting the victim.
Love was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Hennepin County Jail on $1 million bail. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30.
