A 3-year-old Indiana boy drowned after his mother "passed out" on a patio chair from drinking five 25 oz. cans of Bud Ice over two hours, cops say.
Amie Jo Farber, 41, is charged with neglect of a dependent causing death.
The Evansville Police Department responded around 4:44 p.m. on Saturday to a home in the 1200 block of N. Second Avenue for a boy found unresponsive in a pool, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime.
Cops arrived and started performing lifesaving measures before paramedics rushed the boy to the hospital, where he died. He has not been identified.
The homeowner told police that Farber, a family acquaintance, showed up to his house around 2:30 p.m. and asked if her son could use the pool. He said the boy could use the pool as long as Farber watched him. He knew Farber had a drinking problem and she appeared intoxicated when she arrived, cops noted in the affidavit.
Farber and the homeowner sat outside as the boy swam in the pool on a floatie. The homeowner said he went inside for about 10 minutes. When he came back outside, he saw Farber "passed out" in a patio chair, the affidavit stated. He did not see the boy and the floatie was overturned.
The boy was floating face down in the water. The homeowner removed the boy from the pool and yelled for someone to call 911. He started CPR.
"She passed out drunk," a woman yelled during the 911 call, cops said.
Farber allegedly drank five Bud Ice "Big Ones," which are 25 ounces each, in the two hours she was there.
Farber allegedly told cops she briefly jumped in the pool before she got out and lay in a patio chair where she "must've fallen asleep."
"This is all my fault," she allegedly said, without elaborating.
Cops collected a blood sample before she was taken to the Vandenburgh County Jail. She's being held on a $25,000 bond. She has a court hearing set for Wednesday.
