A West Virginia woman who was taking a lunch break with her co-worker told police that he allegedly pointed a gun at her and had strangled her on a separate occasion.
Byron Shelton, 22, was charged with battery and brandishing a deadly weapon, both misdemeanors, after police said he threatened his co-worker. According to a criminal complaint obtained by West Virginia-based news outlet Lootpress.com, a woman who worked at the Walmart store in Fayetteville, West Virginia, said she was taking her lunch break in her car with Shelton on Aug. 23 when he started becoming emotional about having problems with his girlfriend.
According to the complaint, the woman told police that Shelton said he wanted to take his own life, and while they were both in the car, he pulled out a handgun. He then reportedly asked her if she ever had a gun pointed at her.
Police said Shelton removed the magazine from the gun and pressed the firearm against the woman's leg. The woman told police that when the pair returned to work, Shelton followed her around the aisles inside the Walmart while she stocked shelves. She said she became so concerned by Shelton's behavior that she had another employee contact management.
According to the complaint, Shelton's troubling behavior continued after the woman's shift ended. Police said the woman met with Shelton again in his car after they were both finished working so they could continue their conversation. The woman said that without warning, Shelton reached over to her, grabbed her by the throat, and squeezed. He then reportedly apologized.
The woman reported the alleged incidents on Aug. 27.
Shelton was charged and arrested on Friday. He posted $1,000 bond and was released from Southern Regional Jail in Beaver, West Virginia. His next court date was not scheduled as of Monday.
