A Georgia woman allegedly stole from Walmart and then dragged a police officer over 100 yards — leaving him in "a lot of pain" — after he pulled her over at QuikTrip, cops say.
"Put it in park," the Covington Police Department officer can be heard telling 19-year-old Destinee Riggins in body camera footage obtained by local ABC affiliate WSB, right before Riggins allegedly takes off in her Kia.
"It's already in park," she replied, before speeding away with the officer hanging from her window.
"Don't!" the officer can be heard saying as Riggins drives away.
What the cop didn't know was that Riggins had a stolen handgun in a bag at the time of the traffic stop, according to police officials. She was allegedly spotted shoplifting from the nearby Walmart and had just left the store when police pulled her over at QuikTrip after getting a call from a theft prevention officer.
"Drug him all the way around the QuikTrip," witness Andrew Phillips told local news station WANF. "It was pretty crazy."
Covington Police Det. Daniel Seals told WSB that the officer was "already in the window trying to reach in" to stop Riggins before she sped away.
"Puts it in drive, takes off," Seals recounted.
"When he hit the ground, obviously there was a lot of pain," Seals said. "He immediately got up, he immediately radioed to us what was going on."
Riggins was stopped, arrested and charged with aggravated assault on an officer, armed robbery, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of an attempt to commit felonies, and other crimes.
The officer she allegedly dragged was treated at a local hospital for scrapes and bruises, and is now home recovering.
"That's why most of us don't like the term routine traffic stop, because there's nothing routine about a traffic stop," Seals concluded.
