A teenager has been arrested in connection with the shooting of two brothers in Tennessee who authorities say were gunned down while delivering food for DoorDash, leaving one of them dead and the other critically injured.
Chad T. Wright, 16, has been charged with criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide, and engaging in a criminal conspiracy in connection with the death of 22-year-old John Diaz Santos and the wounding of his 14-year-old brother, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department announced.
On Oct. 15, Santos and his brother were in a black Infiniti sedan in the parking lot of Birchstone Village Apartments on North Dupont Avenue in Madison, Tennessee, a neighborhood just north of downtown Nashville, as Law&Crime previously reported.
They were delivering orders for DoorDash, their father told regional NBC affiliate WSMV. Santos had been working the job for more than a year, and his father said that while they were having dinner that night, Santos said he was going to bring his teen brother with him on the deliveries.
At about 7:45 p.m., someone approached the brothers' car and started shooting, police said, citing the preliminary investigation. "Moments later, two more men approached and one of them also started shooting at the victims' Infiniti," police said. The suspects then ran away.
Santos tried to get away and crashed into a nearby fence. He was brought to a hospital, where he died, police said. His younger brother was brought to a children's hospital, where police said he was in critical condition.
The younger brother's current health status is unclear.
Wright was arrested on Friday, Oct. 30, at his high school, police said, adding that a potential motive of robbery "is under consideration." Authorities did not note whether they are looking for more suspects.
A GoFundMe posted for the brothers and their family says Santos "was a loving, caring, hardworking young man with so many dreams and his whole life ahead of him."
"As if losing John wasn't heartbreaking enough, his brother Alan was also shot in the head," the fundraiser added. "We are grieving one son while praying for a miracle for the other."
