A trial is underway in Pennsylvania for a 19-year-old man accused of gunning down his father because the older man was "picking" on him and bringing up his mother.

Tayron Reid is charged with criminal homicide in the death of 45-year-old Ta'Ron Reid, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime. The defendant has been jailed for more than a year.

On Sept. 16, 2025, the father and son were together at a home on the 500 block of Ridge Avenue in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, which is located just northeast of Pittsburgh. A third person was also there — a woman whom prosecutors called to the stand on Tuesday.

The woman said she was drinking with her sister when her boyfriend, Ta'Ron Reid, picked her up from her home, the Tribune-Review reported. They went back to the residence on Ridge Avenue because the man "wanted to see his son."

When the couple arrived, Tayron Reid was sitting on the living room couch. The trio was reportedly having "good conversation," but the woman noted how the victim was always "picking" on his son, and the same thing apparently happened this night.

According to a criminal complaint, the father called his son a "b—" and then "started talking about Tayron's mom." The woman testified that the defendant initially "just said please stop talking about my mom," but "then he got mad."

Tayron Reid allegedly suggested he and his father settle their argument outside, but the father refused. The woman said she tried to get her boyfriend to stop, leading to him walking into the kitchen.

The woman stated that at this point, she had a "bad feeling" and asked to be taken home. "I wasn't supposed to be there," she continued. "Nobody was supposed to be there."

The father said he would take her home after using the bathroom, the woman's account goes on. His son exited the bathroom, and with the woman's view blocked, she said she heard multiple "pops" and saw her boyfriend fall to the ground.

The defendant allegedly fired four shots, stepped over his father, stole his car keys, and drove away as the woman screamed.

Police responded to the residence at about 10:35 p.m. and found the victim "suffering from multiple gunshot wounds." He died at the scene.

Detectives investigated and determined that Tayron Reid was responsible. He turned himself in to police on Sept. 29, 2025.

The defendant's trial was set to continue on Wednesday.

An obituary for Ta'Ron Reid says his "vibrant spirit, sense of humor, and love for those around him made him a joy to be with. Family was at the center of his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with loved ones."
