A Nevada man is headed to prison for killing his girlfriend, with his own grandmother waking up to a "loud thud" and then finding him standing over the woman — smashing her head in with a hammer.
Brandon Tenorio, 42, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday for fatally bludgeoning and stabbing Kourtney Glover, 36, in a 2023 attack at a Las Vegas home, according to court records.
Tenorio pleaded guilty to first-degree murder before the sentencing.
"They told me I couldn't cuss and I can't threaten, so I don't have much of a speech," Glover's father, William Davis, told the judge Thursday, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "I hope he does his time, and I hope he don't make it out of there. I'm an eye-for-an-eye person, and I don't believe in this cutting him some slack for killing somebody."
An arrest report obtained by the Review-Journal says Tenorio's grandmother told police she was upstairs in the Mountain Valley Drive home when "she heard a loud thud" and went to investigate.
"[The grandma] saw Brandon standing over the top of Kourtney, who was on the ground," the report says. "Brandon was hitting Kourtney's head with a hammer."
The grandmother told police that she tried to pull Tenorio away, but he pushed her aside. She then ran from the house through the garage.
"Brandon then came outside and drug her back inside," the arrest report states, according to the Review-Journal. "While Brandon was dragging her back inside, he stated, 'I'm not going to kill you.'"
The woman eventually escaped again and reached a neighbor's home, where she called 911. Officers arrived around 8:08 p.m. and Tenorio walked out of the house with his hands raised. He was covered in blood.
"I did it. I killed her, she is dead, she is inside," Tenorio told police, according to the arrest report.
Inside the home, officers found Glover lying on her back at the base of the stairs near the kitchen. Police discovered blood throughout the house, as well as a bloody hammer in the downstairs bathroom and three bloody kitchen knives in the kitchen.
Glover was pronounced dead at the scene.
During a police interview, Tenorio told detectives he believed people were trying to kill him and that he heard voices "all the time." He said one voice told him, "It's time to kill or be killed."
Tenorio also claimed he received a message on the Signal app telling him to "kill his grandma." He said he believed a gas truck outside the home was part of a plot against him, and that Glover was signaling to the driver with a flashlight.
Tenorio said he grabbed a hammer and began striking Glover in the back of the head. He then took a kitchen steak knife and stabbed her in the neck, stomach and back, according to police.
"He said that she was in pain, and he just wanted to make it stop," the arrest report says. "He stopped to smoke a cigarette."
Glover's sister, Ashley Davis, said in court Thursday that Tenorio had no right to decide when her sister's life would end.
"There is no sentence long enough to restore what he took," she said, according to the Review-Journal.
Tenorio reportedly apologized and said he accepted full responsibility.
"There were significant substance abuse and mental health issues that were not treated at the time," Special Public Defender Caitlyn McAmis told the court. "It's absolutely a tragedy what happened to Ms. Glover."
