A Georgia man tried to run over a woman running in an apartment complex three times with his car after she said good morning to him, according to cops.
Jesse Allen Davis, 21, is charged with aggravated assault and hit-and-run. Cobb County Police Sgt. Eric Smith told Law&Crime that the incident occurred on a recent Sunday morning at Sedgefield Apartments in Marietta.
The victim was going for a jog when she saw Davis, whom she did not know. She said hello and good morning to him and she continued on her morning run while Davis hopped in his vehicle.
But Davis allegedly tried to mow down the victim on three separate occasions for no apparent reason during the July 19 incident. Local ABC affiliate WSB reported that the victim was on the phone with police as Davis allegedly tried to hit her.
Dispatchers asked if she was in a safe place.
"Yes, I'm behind a garbage can," she replied.
Davis allegedly kept driving and hit another car on his way out of the parking lot. Smith said police received another 911 call not long after about the same car crashing into a pole nearby.
The suspect's mugshot shows several cuts to his face. Cops arrested Davis and took him to the Cobb County Jail without bond. His next court date is not listed.
Neighbor Lloydethan White told WSB that he saw the incident go down — and that Davis nearly hit his vehicle as well.
"I think it's wrong that a woman has to fear for her life and she's just trying to go about her normal day and workout," White said.
