Background: A person hangs out of a vehicle during an attack in the area of the 3100 block of Arrendale Street in Memphis, Tennessee (Memphis Police Department). Inset: Clinton Nash (Shelby County Sheriff's Office).

A man in Tennessee is accused of shooting a fully automatic gun at another driver because the victim cut him off when backing out of their driveway.

Clinton Nash, 21, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony, having prohibited weapons, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon, according to court records. He is in the Shelby County Jail and is being held on $150,000 bond.

On Saturday at about 7:30 p.m., a man was "backing out of his driveway" in Memphis, Tennessee, with two other adults and a child, according an affidavit of complaint obtained by Law&Crime. As he backed up, a vehicle that Nash was in — a Ford Focus — approached "before [the victim] could get his car in drive," the affidavit said.

The victim said the Focus "continued to follow extremely close behind them as they drove down the street" before turning and speeding away. But that was apparently not the last time the individuals saw one another.

As the victim approached the area of Cottonwood Road in the city, he said, the Focus "sped up and swerved" in front of him. He said he sped up to pass the other vehicle, and as he did so, he heard the other driver say, "you about to get shot" while the passenger of the Focus leaned out of the window and showed a gun.

On July 11, 2026, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers responded to an aggravated assault call in the 4700 block of Cottonwood Rd. Officers were advised that the victim was involved in a road rage incident involving a red or maroon Ford Focus. The suspect vehicle pulled into a parking lot at Cottonwood Rd. and S. Perkins Rd., at which point the front-seat passenger — alleged to be Nash — exited the vehicle and fired shots at the victim's vehicle.

The Ford's driver proceeded to pull into a parking lot, while Nash allegedly got out, pulled out a Glock, and "fired multiple rounds," hitting the front passenger door of the victim's vehicle. The gun was reportedly a semiautomatic pistol "with a conversion device," commonly referred to as a "Glock Switch," which allows the gun to be fired automatically.

The Memphis Police Department said its detectives "learned that the incident stemmed from a road rage encounter." They did not mention another suspect being wanted.

No physical injuries were reported from anyone in the victim's vehicle.

Investigators identified Nash as their suspect and arrested him on Monday. He is set to appear in court on Thursday.
